Congratulations to Andrew Butryn, this year’s male recipient of the 2015 Amateur Athletic Union Taekwondo Youth Leadership Award. 

Meet Andrew Butryn, an accomplished 4th Degree Black Belt Taekwondo athlete, coach, official & assistant instructor.  Some of his interests besides Taekwondo include soccer, jazz band, marching band, chamber choir & volunteer work at habitat for humanity.                               

Andrew’s competition record is impressive having participated and won numerous state and national events since 2009.  One of his biggest accomplishments was being winning a silver medal out of 20 athletes at the 2014 US Open.  He was a gold medal for his outstanding performance at the Boston International Championship.   

Being an Assistant Instructor, Andrew has shown great leadership inside and outside of his school.  Andrew has distinguished himself graduate 18th in his class of 563 students with a 3.65 GPA.  He was a member of the National Honor Society and took Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate coursework.  He earned 29 college credits while in high school and made Honor Roll each semester during his four years.  In 2014 he was nominated for the YMCA Outstanding Student Award.  He received the Eleanor Sykes Character Counts Award which is given to the senior identified by the staff as being a living example of the six pillars of character: Respect, Responsibility, Trustworthiness, Fairness, Caring and Citizenship.  Andrew was presented the Athlete of the Month in September 2015 for his achievements in Soccer and Taekwondo.
