RECAP: 2014 AAU TAEKWONDO NATIONAL TEAM TRIALS

The 2014 AAU Taekwondo National Team Trials have come and gone, but not without some intense competition! The Team Trials took place September 6ththrough the 8th in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida at the Greater Ft. Lauderdale/Broward County Convention Center. 

Junior (15-17) Athletes weighed-in on Friday, September 6th at the Embassy Suites Hotel and then competed on Saturday, September 7th. Cadet athletes (12-14) weighed-in at the Convention Center venue on Saturday, September 7th and competed on Sunday, September 8th.

The National AAU Taekwondo Program chooses four separate teams, two Cadet Teams made up of 10-11 year olds and 12-14 year olds, a Junior Team of 15-17 year olds, and a Senior Team with 18-32 year olds.

The youngest and oldest teams, Cadet and Senior Teams, were chosen from those who captured the gold medal at the current year’s National Championship in the 10-11 year old and 18-32 year old Black Belt Olympic Style Sparring divisions-all weights, male and female.

The other Cadet Team of 12-14 year old and the Junior Team candidates are chosen from those Black Belts who placed 1st through 4th in the same National Championship in Olympic Style Sparring. Those chosen were then invited to the Team Trials.
