2019 AAU Taekwondo Chairman Award Winners

Each convention year, we are tasked with selecting recipients for the “Chairman Award,” and this year is no different.  The selections have been made in retrospect to convention due to the election.

AAU taekwondo is lucky to have a long list of Candidates who deserve this award, as so many work selflessly to make our organization great!

This year’s recipients are:
  • Grandmaster Ryan Andrachik
  • Master Alex Covert
Grandmaster Andrachik has been a supreme part of the AAU for the past 20 years.  This past year, he was fundamental to the success of our organization on multiple levels.  For a third consecutive year, GM Andrachik and his team at Asian Sun offered a free seminar regarding “business development” and “growth of the school” at our National championship. Both his willingness to share his ideas and his desire to help other school owners grow, add real value to our membership, thus setting an example for all.

He also continuously proves to be one of our top coaches in Olympic Sparring.  This year, GM Andrachik coached 5 athletes on to the National Team.

Finally, his fearless leadership in helping shape our organization this past year was a key element to its current path.  Most recently, GM Andrachik was asked to join the executive committee of our organization and accepted without hesitation.  While most consider this to be an honor in itself, it does not come without sacrifice of one’s time, talent, energy, and efforts.

Master Alex Covert’s award is based on being one of the most exciting new district chairs we have had in many years.  This year, he was tasked with bringing Michigan back into the fold of AAU Taekwondo.  He accepted this challenge with open arms and has brought his “A” game as an athlete to the table as our newest district sports director. With very little time to plan, Master Covert organized and ran an extremely successful event.  His leadership in Michigan lead to a 275% increase in membership - far exceeding all expectations!

Master Covert’s attendance at our National Championship was no different, as he brought the largest delegation from Michigan we’ve seen in many years.  He further demonstrated his commitment with his participation in our national convention this year by showing up and participating in the process from day one.  Without question, Master Covert sets a high bar for all new district chairs; we look forward to many years of continued success.

Congratulations to both Grandmaster Andrachik and Master Covert on their continued dedication to the AAU Taekwondo program!
