We're excited to announce that AAU Taekwondo and KimUnYong Sports Committee of South Korea have just signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) this past Monday, March 25th, 2024.

The purpose of this MOU is to promote various cooperative projects through exchanges and cooperation between AAU Taekwondo and the KimUnYong Sports Committee. Two of the main agreements AAU Taekwondo has agreed with KimUnYong Sports Committee were:

1) AAU Taekwondo will send this year's Sport Poomsae National Team to participate in the KimUnYong Cup in South Korea this year from August 17th-20th.

2) KimUnYong Sports Committee will provide 5 IRs (International Referees) from AAU Taekwondo to participate at the KimUnYong Cup Taekwondo Open Championship in the next 5 years.

This exclusive offer from the KimUnYong Sports Committee is a very prestigious and rare opportunity for AAU Taekwondo IRs to be selected to represent the US to officiate at the KimUnYong Cup Taekwondo Open Championship.

The AAU Taekwondo CRC (Chief Referee Committee) will be in charge of the selection of these 5 IR spots in the next few weeks.

Note: Since the KimUnYong Cup Taekwondo Open Championship started back in 2017, the average number of US IRs that have been appointed to work at this Championship yearly is less than 3.

Leading this MOU signing were Grandmaster Bobby Stone (AAU Taekwondo Chair) and Grandmaster Joe Hasan (AAU Taekwondo Vice Chair).

Assisting with this project we had Grandmaster Thac Nguyen (AAU Taekwondo General Secretary), Grandmaster Kwangil Bae (AAU Taekwondo Sr Adviser & Sport Poomsae Head Coach), along with our AAU Taekwondo Korean Liaison Committee (Grandmasters Hyun Christopher Kim, Seong Tae Kim, and Lion Choi).

Also, attending this signing, we had Grandmaster Arnold Chung (AAU Taekwondo Sport Poomsae National Coach) who is the US Western Region President of the KimUnYong Sports Committee.
